DRAMA LABORATORY Downstage: a Modern Drama Collection DOWNSTAGE is a collection of short annotations of contemporary plays, comprised of the following information: title, genre, number of male-female parts, synopsis, publication and staging dates (if available). The annotations represent Ukrainian authors of various generations and stylistic approaches. Preference is given to those with existing creative accomplishments: publications, stagings, awards. Talented newcomers may also be included. Annotations of new published plays and theoretical studies in the field of drama are also planned. The goal of the collection is to re-establish ongoing ties between contemporary authors and theatres. These ties will be welcomed by directors of literary sections in theatres, directors, managers, literary and theatre critics. DOWNSTAGE provides information on new dramatic texts according to genre and theatrical peculiarity. This simplifies searches and provides orientation in choice. Sections are formed according to propositions provided by authors, and also to requests from theatres. Most new entries will be on original Ukrainian texts, but adaptations and translations of contemporary foreign-language plays are planned for the future. DOWNSTAGE will also inform on new books and noteworthy events in the theatre world.
